Go Local Food has eventually sourced winter onion sets to plant out. Down to Earth in Hexham came up trumps and managed to order a large net which is enough for our needs for planting now.
Small sized packets and quantities seem to still be available for the home or allotment grower but for commercial requirements like those of Go Local Food, purchase has been a little more difficult. It’s a matter of price of course as our purchasing is constrained by what our members can be expected to pay for their crop share.
Also as a quick aside, it seems that Ian has been scouting for useful items for use on the fields. Short scaffold poles have been sourced from someone who was having a clear out and these will be handy for use in making hoops to protect crops from the pigeons in the future.
