Tweeting on the field!
Our Dawn Chorus event in May was a new event for us and as with anything new we were not quite sure how successful it would be. The 5.30am start and whispered conversations as we collected in the empty car park at the fields created an atmosphere of anticipation which was rewarded by a brilliant sunrise, and an equally brilliant guide around the fields with Gill. We heard and spotted 27 different birds and then we were rewarded with breakfast! It was a huge success and there have been many requests for more. Those of us that were there are still pondering which were the squeaky wheelbarrow, the grating noise and the melancholic sound…
There was more than one chorus around us. A sister group in Ovingham ran a similar event 2 weeks earlier. It was interesting to note the similarities and differences that choruses 2 weeks apart and in 2 different locations (1 by the river, 1 on hill above), within a distance of 2 miles – can make.
